Re: Can't Find A Death
Del,
Snap on the County Down birth, you know he was jailed in 1899 and recorded as deceased in 1912 so you have a window of search for registration of death at sea so all you need is for some kind person visting the Mitchell in Glasgow to do a look up for you, a long shot but worth a try.

Re: Can't Find A Death
Del, Do you know where in Ireland he was born? My wife's great grandfather died at sea 1918 He was a stoker and we believe his furthest voyage would be to Ireland as he was at home most nights, certainly he was in every Census. He was never registered in Scotland although he lived in Glasgow. His de...

Re: Institution death
Russell, Like you I will not comment on what happened but I was totally unhappy that his death was not treated better. He was not able to come to terms with being in the "outside" world. the sad truth, as far as I know was that it was his mother who was taken into the asylum after the death of her h...

Re: Institution death
Russell, We had a member of the family killed in Larbet and yet no one was prosecuted. He was a regular vistor to our family home in the late sixties early seventies, with a view to his release but it was decided he was to long institutionalized to be a viable candidate for release, it was only shor...

Colin, I have a similar problem with my own great great grandfather who has no death entry anywhere yet we know that it was within a 14 month period 1881/1883 from other family records. The problem was he was a seasonal fisherman and our belief is that he was lost at sea around Skye/Outer Hebrides a...

100 year rule on census information. It is unlikely that I will find my father-in-law whereabouts, in the UK, in my lifetime just because they will not release the census information for 1921,31 or the 1939 mini census.

Reflection on Today's Society
Having spent the last few years away from general research and concentration on military research one thing has been very noticeable. Those who are enthusiastic about a certain section of history are only too willing to assist and often share information that they have paid for without any thought o...

Re: Where can I go to choose a new Computer
My only advise is keep away from HP, great printers shame about their computer/laptops, they just do not perform the same as Del or most others - yet Compaq was a world leader at one point. Macs are great machines if you are a graphic designer or play a lot of games but you will get a lot more for y...

Re: drowning at sea
Tracy I have another death at sea in 1918, of natural causes, but despite living most of his life in Glasgow, because he was Irish it had to be notified in Ireland his place of birth. I did find his death recorded in the Death at Sea records at the Mitchell Library but no death certificate in SP. re...
