Sailor’s Society

Just discovered someone on my tree died at the Sir Gabriel Wood’s Mariners’ Home in Greenock. The home closed last year however it says on the site if you are looking for records or any information to contact them. Has anyone done so?

Re: Adding an S

Adding an S

I took a stab at the father being John and found this John about the right age at Kinnethmont in 1851.

Re: Photo Question - All the same man ?

I'm not so sure I agree I think the bottom two are very similar with top one looking like it was taken a few years after the middle one. The middle picture he has his head slightly turned so you can not quite tell how protruding the ears are compared to the bottom photo which is front on. Yes he see...

Re: Gobsmacked

I've just googled the author, Dr. Bruce Durie, and he is probably known to some on here as he seems to run a Genealogy service as well as being an author and academic. My ancestor only has a small mention in his book "The Murder of Young Tom Morris" and what details there are of his character have b...

I randomly googled my great great grandfather's name only to discover that his details, name, job and circumstances of his death where used in a fictional book which didn't cast him in a good light. To be honest I think there may be something to the character assisination but I feel slightly aggriev...
