he was East Kilbride and they had farmland in later generations so probably a farmer. Blantyre does indeed neighbour East Kilbride. I have looked at Blantyre in the 1770's the population was only 440 so what were the chances of two Isobel Youngs born around the same time in such a small population.

My question is would Blantyre be mentioned because that is where she lived at the time or where she would have been ba...

Recently discovered that my mother was taken away whilst preganant to stay in a "home" in Bishopton. This was in the mid-late 60's and was run by nuns. She was there for many months until after the birth along with many other unmarried mums to be. Does anyone know anything about this place? Don't ev...

Thanks for all the replies. I eventually found her under Marjreat after sitting in the house repeating the name margaret in a broad Irish accent I tried all the variations on what it could have translated into. Allthough my wife thought I had lost the plot.

On my mothers side for four generations back from her I can walk to any of the locations within 15 minutes of my house. My mother and My 4th Great Gran died in the same street (obviously not at the same time). On my dads side we have one family who are quoted in a historical book as staying in the s...

I had some success as I eventually found in the 1851 Census. Two families next door to each other with the county named Leitrum. Its a small county but the McGarry's and the Devines are rife in the county. So I am no further forward. Being honest and I am sure that there are more qualified people to...
