Hi Eric,
Is the mystery Thomas's occupation given on the information where he is named as father?
I finally pinned down one of my "mystery Dads" because he luckily had a relatively uncommon occupation.

Re: Remembrance Day Poppy on TalkingScot
Our local shop had theirs stolen as well
A couple of kids, reckoned to be no more than about 10 or 11, grabbed it and ran! It's thought they were the same ones who stole the "penny for the guy" collection from kids last week

Re: West Yerbert??, Argyllshire
Hi Karen,
Could it possibly be West Tarbert? That's in Argyllshire and seems like a likely one to have been mistranscribed like that.

Re: Desperate for help please
This topic raises a question for which I don't have an answer and I'm wondering if anyone does. Would it have been possible for the birth to have been registered with no name? Even with the expanded search possibilities on SP " Male child born 4th Jan 1868. would not be searchable. You CAN search u...

Re: Desperate for help please
It appears the lodge was up for sale at some time recently (might still be!) according to this. It is the full estate agent brochure of the lodge and is quite impressive. http://img.findaproperty.com/bowltscharteredsurve/m12443009.pdf I also found this wee snippet about one of the residents - "The f...

Re: Desperate for help please
In the 1950's when grandfather lived in London 2 men came to the family house, having traced him, wanting him to sign "family papers". He refused on the basis his family didn't want him as child and he wouldn't do anything for them now! From his apparent comment, it seems that it did relate to his ...

Re: Archibald Whyte
No such luck! The only will for an Archibald Whyte in the Dunoon area was in 1857.SarahND wrote:It would be wonderful to find that Archibald left a will with Isabella as one of the beneficiaries, listed as "daughter"... but that is probably too much to hope! Anyone else have any ideas for finding further proof?
