Re: Thomas Forrest and Marion Watt
Hello, Based purely on naming rules it looks like either could be correct. According to the tree on familysearch, John Lawson and Marion Watt's second son and first daughter are named Alexander and Janet, so this Marion Watt may well be the daughter of Alexander Watt and Janet Sanderson. But the sam...

Re: Death record unfound
Maybe a long shot, but have you tried any WW1 records for the husband? If he was a casualty it may tie in with one of the military death records you have found. If he survived the war it may at least rule that out. I can look these up on Ancestry if you don't have access.

Re: Virtual Volumes on Scotlands People
This is undoubtedly the highlight of 2021! There was me excited enough about the thought of the 1921 census appearing some time later this year (fingers crossed). The Kirk Session records are 10 times more exciting. Who knew there was so much antenuptial fornication going on :D And... access is comp...

Re: English Records on Ancestry
Hello, I think it depends on the recordset that the result is being returned from. A lot of the English marriage records on Ancestry are only a list of indices, and you need to know the name of the spouse to match them up. However, the fact you're saying its a handwritten record with only a single n...

Re: Parent Search
I'm fairly sure this isn't going to be possible on Scotland's People. I usually just do parent searches on familysearch, then go looking for the results one-by-one on SP. I'd guess that now that it is free to view the summary of search results on SP (instead of charging one credit), they'd effective...

Re: Knowing for sure...
At the risk of teaching you to suck eggs, you can't know anything for sure this far back in the records. Apart from anything else you have to bear in mind the large gaps in the records prior to Statutory Registration, and you can never account for the records that might never have existed, or have b...

Hi Trish,
This was a question first asked in the 1861 census, and reflected concerns about housing conditions:

Re: Help with some handwriting
Excellent Arthur, absolutely spot on. It's funny how as soon as someone else points it out, it becomes 'immediately' obvious :D The 'weaver trade' bit also makes sense with the very few details I have about Robert Low. He is registered as a 'Manufacturer' when he marries Janet Jack in Edinburgh in J...

Help with some handwriting
Hello, Came across this one this morning whilst re-checking through some of my records. This is from the OPR for Scoonie Parish, which records the marriage of my ancestors Robert Low and Janet Jack in Edinburgh in 1790, and the receipt of their dues in their home parish. What I'd never noticed befor...

Re: Register of Corrected Entries
Thanks both for the replies. In this case it looks like both deaths have been registered by the families in question (the informant is brother-in-law on both records), and both have been registered the day after the accident, so I wouldn't imagine the Procurator Fiscal would have had time to report ...
