Re: Help with an elusive Fife Ancestor!

Hi All, what about this one on freecen. the age is out, but only a couple of years and maybe whoever filled it out thought ages should be rounded up for all. If Charles filled it out, men often aren't worried to much by things like age. If my brother had to tell everyones age in out family, you can ...

Hi carole, Hi carole, I have family from europe also and have had numerous problems finding place names. Not only have place names changed, but were known by various names at the same time. The ending Berg doesn't sound very lithuanian to me, but is used in yiddish whcih ties in with your family bei...

Hi Marie, Hope this doesn't come out the wrong way and I'm no expert, but I would always say keep an open mind. People can do things that we don't expect for many reasons ie love or what's popular at the time. A person that was possibly well off? (being a merchant) that would get into a dispute over...

Hi Marie, This might be another clutching at straws thing, but if you go to http://www.dgcommunity.net/historicalindexes/default.aspx and look in the Dumfries kirk sessions there is a William MUIR merchant ( i believe Muir and Moore can be interchangable) mentioned who has a dispute over seats in th...

Hi Ann, Thanks for your interest. I was aware of the clan CAMERON conection to Lochiel. In fact it can be quite annoying when looking for the name in newspapers or the national archives and such. I do not however think this is where my family name came from, althought there is a girl over there in S...

Philip LOCHIEL

Hi All, Some of you may remember me searching for this family a few years ago on the old SP board. I'm still trying to find anything I can on where my gggggrandfather Philip LOCHIEL came from, or a connection to any of the other LOCHIELS. I don't hold out much hope, but just thought I would put it b...

Hi Gordon,

There is a JEAN ROBERTSON b 1862 in HUNTLY with father called William (no mother) in Banff, on Ancestry. I don't subscribe, so can't look at it. This is the 1871 census.

Hi Robert, I thought that was a bit confusing. This is what I mean. When searching type in JAMES in first name box, leave last name blank. for parents type in JANE BURNSIDE on mothers box, leave box for father blank. Year 1865 +/- 10 region BRITISH ISLES country SCOTLAND county LANARK. Because this ...

Hi Daj, I have had some success using this method. Using IGI enter only mothers name on the parent search, and then put in the FIRST NAME ONLY of either her mother or father for the person you are searching for ( i usually try john, james, mary and jane/t too regardless of whether these were parents...
