I don't know what happened there! That was supposed to be a number eight, not a smiley .

Re: McPhersons of Kilmonivaig, Inverness-shire.
Thank you, Andrew! I looked up what you suggested, and it told me very little. Well! Nothing that I understood. On the second one, (page 8) it mentioned a 'reverend', which I took to be a gentleman of the Church of Scotland, and as far as I am aware, my family were at the time, Roman Catholic. Thank...

Re: McPhersons of Kilmonivaig, Inverness-shire.
Well! As I can't seem to get back any further than Alexander and Mary, we can't prove any of that, but it was what made me think that perhaps Mary was a 'second wife', and as such, needed a Donald of her own ? With all my information coming from the census, we cannot know if Mary was mother to all o...

Re: McPhersons of Kilmonivaig, Inverness-shire.
Thank you again Wilma! You have been so helpful. Looking at the names on these census documents, and working out who is who, is fascinating in itself. It not only gives us some answers, it also poses some questions. For instance, why would Alexander and Mary call TWO of their sons Donald? I can unde...

Re: McPhersons of Kilmonivaig, Inverness-shire.
I did try the Roman Catholic records too, but didn't have any more luck there. If the information is on the census, then why can't it be verified on S.P.?
It seems strange to me.

Re: McPhersons of Kilmonivaig, Inverness-shire.
Thank You for your swift reply, Wilma, you have helped me in that you pointed out where I got some of my information from - the census. When Scotland's People let me down, I couldn't think where my information had come from. Thank You! I cannot understand why Scotland's People is of so little help?

McPhersons of Kilmonivaig, Inverness-shire.
Good Day All, It has been a long time since I was on this forum, (2015) but I have recently started to take a new interest in my family tree, thanks to a nephew, who has shown an interest. My grandmother, Christina McPherson was born in November 1874 to Donald McPherson and Jane Richmond. I have rec...

Re: General Query
Hi Annette, The thing is, you mentioned the name McPherson - Well! Their daughter Jane, (My great grandmother) married Donald McPherson, I had another look, but Jane & Donald's daughter Ann would have been too young to be the informant. I thought it was their(James & Mary's) daughter, Ann Richmond, ...

Re: General Query
The years I have for them living at that address are 1885/86. (The years on their death certificates) The name was Richmond, but if Ann (the informant) was a grand daughter rather than a daughter her name could have been McPherson, and it might explain the discrepancy in he name of James first wife.
