Re: Elizabeth Mooney and family (missing records)

Hi, thanks for your response. 1. Elizabeth Mooney married Thomas Grieve in Bellshill, Lanarkshire in 1897. 2 I have found both Elizabeth and John in the 1891 census only recently actually. They were not living together. Elizabeth was living as a servant in Bellshill, Lanark. John was living with hi...

Re: Elizabeth Mooney and family (missing records)

HeWho* has failed to mention that he has exactly the same thread on RootsChat. He has a few replies. Nothing to stop him doing that but it would have been nice to know. I posted on RootsChat 2 days after originally posting on here as I had received no responses on here at that time. I thought I'd p...

Re: Elizabeth Mooney and family (missing records)

Hi Andy, I've been mulling this one over, and sadly not coming up with any answers - only further questions. 1. Who did she marry in 1897? and where 2. Have you found her and/or John from the orphanage in the 1891 census? 3. What significance is the year 1895 that you mention ? " discovered her par...

Re: Thomas Grieve and His Parents (Missing Records)

Thank you very much to all of you for all of your help! The information suggests that this was indeed the John Grieve I have been seeking. I'm still rather confused about the whereabouts of his marriage record but I'll continue looking!

Andy :D

Thomas Grieve and His Parents (Missing Records)

Hi :D I am trying to find the whereabouts of the birth record of my Grandfather's Grandfather Thomas Grieve who, according to the 1901 and 1911 Census', was born in Edinburgh circa 1863. I have used countless credits on the ScotlandsPeople site and many hours of searching on other Genealogy sites (m...

Re: Seemingly Missing Marriage Record

Falkyrn's explanation was the first one that sprang to my mind too. Other reasons could be - a. they never were married, and he chose the first date that occurred to him when asked b. he couldn't remember and chose a date [be honest -how many of your fathers remembered their wedding anniversary :oo...

Re: Seemingly Missing Marriage Record

The gremlins appear to have struck your post - you state they were born in April 1855 and married in April 1855 - a bit young :( Given the lack of any official record have you considered that their marriage may have taken one of the forms of so called "irregular marriages". The most common form of ...

Seemingly Missing Marriage Record

I am searching for a marriage record for a John Carlan (sometimes spelt Carlin or Carling) and an Helen or Ann McCarter (sometimes spelt McArter or McArthur). They were apparently married in Glasgow in April 1855 but after much searching I cannot find their marriage record anywhere. I've tried searc...
