Re: John Robertson

Hi Bob, I know you have the 1851 & 1861 censuses; they are just to compare with 1871. Annete, could the last three below be some of Elizabeth's siblings? Catrine & Sorn are only a mile or two apart. ==== 1851 cens. 613 Ed 4 p 16. Sorn. Ford St. ...........[lodging with Dorothy? McCartney, 36, b Lisb...

Re Kendall family 1861 census

Hi Maggie, Ancestry has Kendall indexed as Rawlins ... ...they also have some other errors on the family... Search County Yorkshire , Civil Parish Sherburn for a, John RAWLINS, b. 1813 - there's only one [age error as 48]. Here's my best shot of translating the original page. -- 1861 census. Folio 2...

Re 1841 Census Graham etc

Hi David, I first looked for the Graham family (using Soundtex) in Perthshire...but nothing that fitted... ...extended this to all of Scotland; still nothing. So, hoping that the family were in Perthshire, but just wrongly transcribed by Ancestry (not uncommon), i then searched all Perthshire on fir...

Re Grandholm Cottage

Hi Kari, Just adding to the previous good advice. There is mention of Grandholm Cottage on the National Library of Scotland maps. -- http://www.nls.uk/maps/early/counties.html Select Aberdeenshire. Re Rosina / Rosa

Hi Helen, Some idle thoughts that have crossed a confused mind... -- Is there proof that Rosina's maiden surname is definitely Higgins ? I know son William says on his 1855 MC that's what it is - wrong info on MCs isn't unknown. On William's 1903 DC his widow Jane Dawson says it's Ferrier . But DCs,...

Alex Slach ?

Hi Southpaw,
The 1851 census index CD has wee Alex indexed as SLACH, and i couldn't disagree unless meant to end in a "K".
Enumerator seems to have more than one way of writing a capital "S".
Compare the surname SWAN of Janet & Mary on lines 3 & 4.
Even the "S" he uses in Street isn't consistent.

Rosina / Rosa

Hi Helen and Ellen, Like yourselves i can only see Rosina / Rosa as a possible candidate in 1841 & 1851... And I'm also unsure if it is Rosina "McHendrie" in these two censuses. The ages in 1841 are confusing - John a 40yr old with a 50yr old mother...? But who gave the details to the enumerator? Jo...

Alexander Davidson & Annie McCulloch..?

Hi Annette, A good find. :D Which leads to Katherine in the 1920 census as married to Rudolph Bartels. Ancestral file also states that Elizabeth was married to Cloyd Woodke. -- I notice there are other submitters... ...but they have Katherine & Elizabeth as both born < Scotland > 23 Sep 1890. Bro. &...
