Hi Jake A Google search for Guildford cemeteries brought up the following address and phone number: Guildford Crematorium and Cemeteries New Pond Rd Godlaming GU7 3DB 01483 444711 I'm sure that if you were to ring them up they would either have the burial records there or would be able to tell you w...

Hi Stephen Bear in mind that his name was probably John rather than Jack. Although Jack is a very popular name now it used to be a pet name for John. There are 21 entries for John E Bird in the current electoral roll - none for Jack E Bird. Two of the entries are in Scotland but neither are anywhere...

Hello Linda If Sidney John Matthews was born 23/12/1928 - just before Christmas/New Year - then the chances are his birth wouldn't be registered until the beginning of the next year so would be indexed in the next quarter. There's a likely entry: 1929 - March quarter - Matthews, Sidney J - mother's ...

That's interesting! Perhaps little Mary Ann is Thomas's daughter by an even earlier marriage and that his wife died in childbirth. This would make him a widower in 1851. I would think that the Mary Brown given on this census would be the mother of the as yet unborn Thomas - your gt grandfather - esp...

Hello Brian I take it that the info you have on Thomas comes from the 1881 census as that seems to match what you've got? Well, I'm afraid the 1891 census just adds to your problems as it gives Thomas's birthplace as Scotland, Lanark :( 1891 Census RG12/3370 - Reg Dist Burnley - Sub Reg Dist Burnley...

Hi Katie Have you considered the fact that they might not have boxed under their full or actual names? There's a useful looking website called The History of Pre-War Boxing in Britain at http://www.prewarboxing.co.uk/ . One section has a list of names arranged alphabetically - it seems to have hundr...

Hello Nina Since there seemed to be a fairly clear connection with England in the 1850's I tried the 1851 census. There were several James McCormack/McCormick entries for a birthdate of 1835 +/- a few years. Almost all were born in Ireland. I checked all the ones listed as 'son' but none had a fathe...
