Re: Astral House, Gray Road, Liff, Angus, Scotland.

Moray_Lass, Welcome to the Astral Club. I realise that your point is related to the post by 'Currie'. However, I don't think that any of us has an issue with the possibility that there was/is more than one Astral House in Scotland. See my post to him which follows. Currie, Thank you for your interes...

Re: Astral House, Gray Road, Liff, Angus, Scotland.

WilmaM and AndrewP, I do appreciate your replies and for continuing to stick with it so to speak. Although the net is sort of closing in I reckon that I will have to contact Dundee Archives as suggested by Wilma. Such organisations have enough on their plate with the current problems and I will leav...

Re: Astral House, Gray Road, Liff, Angus, Scotland.

WilmaM, Thank you for your suggestions. I think I understand your train of thought but I'm afraid the 'Cause of death' column does not provide any clues as to the nature of the Astral House facility. In normal circumstances the death cause is something like Pulmonary Tuberculosis, Broncho Pneumonia ...

Re: Astral House, Gray Road, Liff, Angus, Scotland.

AndrewP, Thank you for your response. I am quite happy to accept your suggestion if all else fails but I still have a wee doubt about it because of what follows. In my initial post I mentioned the Nov 1965 death in Astral House which appeared in the Edinburgh Gazette. The same article includes a dea...

Astral House, Gray Road, Liff, Angus, Scotland.

I am trying to establish exactly what and where this establishment was. Two people in my tree died there in 1948 and 1954. Was it an asylum, hospital, care home or something else.? There are bits and pieces online that ask the same questions but there are no answers that tie it down. A few suggestio...

Re: Confused!!! Gartloch Asylum

Marilee36 Your first post does suggest that Agnes Smith nee Drennan was in Stobhill Hospital, Balornock, Glasgow at the time of her husbands entry to Glasgow District Asylum, Gartloch near Gartcosh. Although the question on the form does not ask for an address it's as if someone was making the point...

Re: Who is Christian Sinclair

Der1Rofs, I have no connection to the Sinclairs but have some observations on what has been said so far - (1) It is not unheard of for a child to be born and registered without a forename. However, I have not come across a similar situation with a christening/baptism where one of the main points is ...

Re: Lesley [Mairi] McLaren (1934 - 1957+) in Canada

Currie. Thanks for your reply. I had a look at the WikiSwire link you kindly provided which relates to a ship he captained. The Swire part concerns John Swire & Sons who actually founded the China Navigation Co.. In 1948 John was on a trip from Southampton, England to China and gave his home address...

Re: Lesley [Mairi] McLaren (1934 - 1957+) in Canada

WilmaM Thanks for your response. I do have a copy of her father's death record from Scotlandspeople but have failed to find any obituary for him or his wife Mairi. The Informant to his death in 1964 was not his wife, who was apparently still living, but his sister-in-law who lived in Edinburgh and t...

Lesley [Mairi] McLaren (1934 - 1957+) in Canada

I need to be very careful with this lady because she may still be living at the age of 85. I am trying to establish what happened to her following her emigration from Scotland to Canada in 1957. The ship was bound for Montreal but her destination is simply given as Canada. Lesley was a nurse/midwife...
