Hi Lesley, Thanks for replying to my epistle. I was aware when I was writing it there there was a danger of confusing others as well. Not helped I might say by putting a wrong name - the census entry I found for 1841 was for Robert (not David) Douglas and Jean Douglas (Steedman) in Aberlady. Sorry a...

it's confused I am

My Great Grandmother, Jane Moody M.S Douglas was born in Crossford, Fife in 1849. Her SRI death entry shows her parents as David Douglas, a gardener and Helen M.S. Steadman. They were married 30 Aug 1834, and David is described as gardener from parish of Carriden. Helen Steadman's birth entry 08 Jul...

I first came to this site at the beginning of this year, on the recommendation of a friend who has been researching much longer than I have. I'm very glad that I did. He said I would find it most helpful, and that certainly has been the case.
Many Thanks,

Pugwash

Parish of Fyvie

I am looking at an OPR birth entry for Mary Stephen, born 1791 in what looks like Waulkmill of Rothes or Rotha in the parish of Fyvie. The nearest I can find is over near Aberlour. Was there somewhere in Fyvie? Also earlier entries I am using refer to a place called Littlegourdas. Again I would welc...

Thank you very much for this, Annette. I'll certainly follow up.
I have meanwhile found a David Lindsay, born Feb 1793 in Cortachy and Clova, whose parents were Daniel Lindsay and Elizabeth Davidson. Wonder if the naming of son Daniel might be a lead.
Regards,

Keith

Thanks Annette, As you say, an interesting one. I am doing my best to continue the occupational tendency in that household. However, I suspect that that David Lindsay was born a bit too early. I did find an 1841 census entry in the Records Office (but not on the website) which had a David Lindsay an...

Lindsays in Cortachy and Clova

I am trying to trace my Lindsay ancestors, and have come to a standstill at the moment. My great great grandfather was Daniel Lindsay, born in 1825 in Cortachy, Angus. He married Jean Douglas (b 1835) of Aberlemno in 1855 in Forfar, though they do not seem to have remained together, He died in Forfa...

 Sorry to have wasted your time folks. I now believe that Pilmer could be a location - perhaps a steading - near the village of Lauder in Berwickshire. Possibly a variation of Pilmuir.
Doh!
