Re: Marriage Dates Discrepancies

There is also the fact that dates weren't as important to people back then as they are now-a-days, so I wouldn't stress too much about it. Curious but not a show-stopper. My Granda put down the wrong date when he signed up for the merchant navy in WWII - month and year were correct. He claimed he wa...

Re: Marriage Dates Discrepancies

[scratches head] 1911 - 16 is 1895, where'd the 1875 come from...? I was going to say earlier, but work got in the way. My Granny was very active in the Kirk all my life, made us go if we stayed over on a Sat night with her. But her first child was illegitimate and not by our Grandfather. So later l...

Re: Loban in Dundurcas

Hi Chris (I suspect) I'm Syd's first cousin-once-removed, and that was the cousins I was referring too back in 2013. :-) He has mentioned you. My Dad is descended from the Rothiemay Lobans through his parental line, and Syd by their shared maternal (sisters). Our line of Lobbans move through Boharm ...

Re: Where is George Lindsay in 1891?

Sorry to confuse things but I am not related to the Lindsay's or McPhee's, I just thought the Northern Scot newspaper might have something of use. My folks are from further east - farmers and fishers.

The actual 1908 edition will be in the Heritage Centre on microfiche.

Re: corrected entry on birth cert

You could look into the Kirk Session Minutes (sadly not online) - that is where I have found most of Father's names and it might explain the 3 months delay. Maybe Jane didn't want to register her until the Father admitted paternity?

Wonder if there is anything in the newspapers that might explain something?

It is offically, a friend with Ancestry found the marriage of this Alexander Symon and Jane Storm, in 1859 in Illinois, so he isn't my 2xG Grandfather and I am back in the hunt for the Alexander Symon mentioned in the Kirk Session Minutes who is my GxGrandfather ](*,)

Re: Alexander Symon 1861-1871

"Can someone with access check his naturaliazation documents..." According the Cook County Court Clerk's Office "The Archives Department holds Cook County Naturalization Records dating from October 1871 until 1929. All records prior to October 1871 were destroyed in the Chicago Fire." Thanks for lo...

Re: Alexander Symon 1861-1871

I think I may have found the Alexander Symon I've been looking for, but some of the information is contradictory. Family Search and Find A Grave has a death of an Alexander Symons on 15 Aug 1907, Cook Co. Il. and gravestone photo gives birth date as 20 Dec 1828. Family Search census says he was born...
