Re: Lorimer Conundrum
Yeah - but it got me a bit further on the William Lorimer, with references and not guesswork. I now know that Soldier-John is local and not passing through, as she turned up at his father's house. Their relationship had been going on for 2 years, they claim he promised to marry her, though he ...

Re: Lorimer Conundrum
Thanks for the heads up Wilma, I should have kept going, I know better, having had one drag on for years  What a saga, but nothing in the Fordyce Presbytery minutes, sadly. First 1814 entry is April. But Ann Begg is a witness in Ann Smith case against William Smith in October in Ordiquhill. If...

Re: Lorimer Conundrum
Thanks KT - that does open things up a bit more =D> Still no baptisim record for William sadly so his BOD is still vague. I wonder where the whole Begg/Oglivie marriage came from on the Death Cert, unless Isabel Begg is Ann's sister and William's son got confused. (no sign of her being a sister in t...

Lorimer Conundrum
I have an ancestor giving me a headache and the newly released Kirk Session Minutes have drawn a blank. I am going round in circles and need some fresh eyes on this problem. ](*,) Can anyone see something I am missing and do you think the Death Cert info can be trusted? William Lorimer born - c1814 ...

Re: Virtual Volumes on Scotlands People
I need to dig out my list of fatherless children that I couldn't look up until I could get into the Records Office in Edinburgh. And guess who is luckily on holiday next week, timing couldn't be better for me
But what will we do when we bring down the server with demand

Re: William Wilson (Born 1816, Elgin, Moray)
Hi Pinemartin Where did you get that Wiliam was born 1816 in Elgin? I'm not finding a birth for a William Wilson in Elgin 1816 in Scotland's People or Family Search and nothing old enough in Libindx (my go-to for anything Moray), http://libindx.moray.gov.uk/mainmenu.asp Found two with father George ...

Re: Astral House, Gray Road, Liff, Angus, Scotland.
Huntly is much further north, near the border with Moray - so you are lookin at more than one Astral House.

Re: Alias surnames
When I saw the title I thought they were going to talk about Tee-names, but that isn't how they are recorded, and I'm not sure if it stretches up to Black isle. My maternal family is riddled with Tee-names, it is a Fishing Village things. They are recorded as John Wood "Deacon" or George "Sailor" Fl...

Re: Decyphering a death reg
Could you give us some more details - I'm trying to look for births with a mother's surname starting G and father Smith, but I'm having to guess at Jane's age and that she was born in Fife. Even the Father's full name and the mother's first - if you can read them - would help.
