Re: Shipmaster

Yes, she died in 1898 and both her husband and father were deceased by then too but it could mean Merchant Ship I suppose or Motorized steamer. I just found it odd it was written for both of the men and they are both deceased. I am totally clueless when it comes to anything seafaring other than I li...

Shipmaster

Good Morning, I am transcribing some death and marriage registers this morning and have come across the same entry and not sure what it means. I have two George Fenders that were Shipmasters and a James Beat that was a Shipmaster. (so far in my research) The question: On the death registry for Jane ...

Re: Census Found on Ancestry, can not find record on SP

Alan, thank you! I will look at this. My George came from a line of Georges so the first on the tree could be a possibility though on the 1881 census he is listed at a machine fitter. The two prior were ship masters. I would like to thank everyone for taking the time to read and post to my inquiry, ...

Census Found on Ancestry, can not find record on SP

Hello, My George Fender shows up in the 1891 Census on Ancestry as George "Fonder" however when I went to find the record on SP to get the actual census, my search is not finding him as Fender or Fonder. I have tried searching for him and his wife Jane. Address 69 N Wellington Street. Unfortunately ...

That was going to be my next question. I got here to work this morning with copy from the web in hand and blew it up and darkened it an it is near impossible for me to read. I will order a copy from Scotlands people.

Thank you!! :)

And I did find his birth record from the census information. I can barely read the document but very clearly under the father is "illegitimate" .. I wonder why he was named on the marriage document then, unless over the years a relationship was formed. Thank you all for your amazing help and insight...

Thank you Annette,

This is the first census return I have seen and there is a lot of information on there. I look forward to delving into those next!

This does make it seem she was not married. I look forward to finding his birth record to see if she names the father there.

Many thanks!

Goodness, you make that sound so easy. And thank you so much! I thought it was afterward Nicholl and next time won't be so quick to doubt myself and that all makes sense and oddly, I had not considered that she might not have been married. That does answer questions and my many thanks!
