Re: In Chapel Donan

Hi Cathy, It looks like Chapel Donan is a location in Girvan parish, north of the town. https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/#zoom=17&lat=55.2655&lon=-4.8443&layers=5&right=BingHyb It is the site of a chapel of that name; the chapel having been a ruin for some time. In some old documentation...

Re: Looking for William Hutchison (abt. 1791)

Hi Samuel, [TS_welcome] On looking on http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk I looked for W*m Hu*ch*son born or baptized from 1770 to 1795 in the County of Angus and came up with only one result in 1778 in Liff, Benvie and Invergowrie parish (Established Church of Scotland); also nothing for Roman Cathol...

Re: 5 Freer St , Edinburgh C 1850

Hi David, At the time of the 1851 census, it looks like Freer Street had not been built. The 1851 Ordnance Survey map shows that it had not been built at that time. See: https://maps.nls.uk/view/74415495 Freer Street was off the south side of Fountainbridge, immediately west of where Fountainbridge ...

Re: James Gillespie - 344 Holmhead St, Glasgow

Hi Daryl, I read the address as 34½ Holmhead Street. I have a number of BMD certificates with "½" in the address. As for which Holmhead Street, which registration district was the death registered in? That should be at the top of the page, as in the example below. D-cert-heading.JPG All the best, An...

Re: FORREST / NAPIER family

i thought it didn't even exist anymore. Hi Lauren, I don't see any sign of Auchloy on the Royal Mail postcode website. That most likely means that it is nobody's postal address nowadays. Maybe the house is no longer used, but the farm buildings still stand (as we can see from the aerial view). The ...

Re: FORREST / NAPIER family

Hello "Laurenbailey1", [TS_welcome] There is quite a lot of information on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk about the grandparents. One thing to be aware of is variations in spelling or variations of names. The ones that I saw with a look at the ScotlandsPeople index are as follows. Jeanie Weir Forrest ::...

Re: Help please

Hi Ailsa, Once more, playing a game of probability with the ScotlandsPeople index, I searched for the death of a James Wright between 1911 and 1939, with a birth year of 1864 ± 2 years in a registration district within the City of Glasgow gives the following 9 results. JAMES WRIGHT, 49 1912, 654/ 35...
