Re: Inglis Glen, Colinton

Hi Barbara, I had a quick peek at the 1905 Valuation Roll, and there is your man Frederick Harrison, in a lodge to Inglis Green House. It seems that the house and lodge owners, the Stevensons were the proprietors of A & J MacNab the Launderers and Dyers across the road from the house. See (near the ...

Re: Inglis Glen, Colinton

Hi Barbara, It is more likely to be Inglis Green. Is that a possibility from the document that you have with that on it? Inglis Green was between Slateford and Longstone villages, on the northern edge of Colinton Parish, nowadays (since 1920) within the City of Edinburgh. See: http://maps.nls.uk/geo...

Re: Help please

Hi Carol, From your information, I searched for surname WRIGHT in HUTCHESONTOWN from 1888 to 1889 (blank given name and both genders). It returned 13 results. Only one pair were in adjoining reference numbers: year 1889 Alexander (certificate no 1017) and Michael (certificate no 1018). There was one...

Re: Help please

Hi Ailsa, See this map from 1895 . https://maps.nls.uk/view/74417037 Almost in the centre of this map is Hutchesontown UP Church. It is on the odd-numbered side of the street, with the numbers starting from the town-centre end (the north-west of this map). So the increasing odd numbers are on the no...

Re: Help please

Hi Ailsa, There is a good possibility for James as a boarder in Hutchesontown, Glasgow, age 17, in the household headed by Elizabeth Douglas. Similarly, there is a reasonable possibility for Catherine as a 14 year old boarder in Govan, Glasgow, in the household headed by Jane Cunningham. All the bes...

Re: Help please

Hi Ailsa, One that is straightforward for you to find on ScotlandsPeople is the death of James Wright (born 1861). If you search for James Wright, died between 1861 and 1863, aged 0 to 2 years, all from the information that you have. That yields 12 results. Some show the mother's maiden surname, and...

Hi Ailsa, The certificate on that link can only be viewed by you, as the person who paid for it. As part of the copyright conditions, you are not allowed to put the complete certificate up on any other website. However, if you scanned a portion or two of it and put that online (such as attaching it ...

Re: Help to find a marriage or death

Hi Ailsa, If she was married, her death would be indexed under both surnames: single and married. Any surnames used through life should be on the death registration, and hence on the ScotlandsPeople index. As an example, Catherine McPhee who died aged 68 in 1967 in Glasgow was also registered as Cat...

Re: Help to find a marriage or death

Hi Ailsa, I have had a look at ScotlandsPeople deaths using the following criteria: Surname: m*phee Given name: ?ath*r?n* Birth year: 1899 +/- 2 years Year of death: 1918 to 2017 That gives 15 results. If you discount the ones with a mother's maiden surname given (none of these were "Wright"), and t...

Re: seeking step sisters

Hi there, [TS_welcome] If you go to the ScotlandsPeople website, there is information about one of your step-sisters. Not good news, I am afraid. I see no sign of anything on ScotlandsPeople regarding your other step-sister. As this involves relatively recently deceased, and potentially living peopl...
