Mothers maiden name on death record

Hi, I have a question that I hope someone can help me with. The death record for my ggg grandfather William Hewitson, born in Troon and died in Greenock, states that his father was William Hewitson and his mother was Agnes McCann. These Hewitsons seemed to move between Troon and Wigtown. There are t...

Re: Who is Christian Sinclair

Hi, and Welcome to TalkingScot I think there were several different Sinclair families on the Isle of Islay. I am a descendant of the Sinclair’s from Islay. My 4x great grandparents were Donald Sinclair and Isobel Currie. Their children were: Duncan B 1794 Archibald B 1796 Mary B. 1798 Isobel B 1800 ...

Re: Hogmanay Scandal Anyone?

Gee I hope this isn't one of my relatives. My 3x great grandfather was Alexander Douglas born in 1755 in Bowmore. As per the naming pattern all of his children had a son named Alexander, and several of the Douglas's moved to Greenock. Just checked on SP and the above named Alex Douglas born in 1834 ...

Thanks so much Jack, I'll check that out. SP doesn't show any births for Troon.

Scotlandspeople OPR's

My ggg grandfather William Hewitson died in Greenock in 1897. He death record states that he was 78 years old, which means he was born about 1819. All census records state that he was born in Troon Ayrshire. When checking for a birth record on SP it doesn’t give you the option of naming Troon as the...

Need help

Hi, I’m posting for a neighbor. Her grandfather Archibald MacIntyre, according to his US military records, was born on Jan 1, 1888 in Cairnbaan Scotland. This woman claims that she went to Lochgoilhead Scotland several years ago and got a copy of his birth record. She said it only listed his mother ...

Re: Pioche, Nevada

Trish here in California unincorporated areas are maintained by the county. I live in Palm Desert but my little area is unincorporated which I love as we don't have to pay the Palm Desert taxes. I live in a gated community so our roads are maintained by our homeowners association but all roads outsi...
