Re: Granny shoved aff bus?.....
Can't believe I missed this post when it was first posted as I've been a member almost since the start. Not sure if any of the main players are still on the site but thought I would just add by saying that the Hamilton Family are connected to my husband. Helen Hamilton, living with her granny and gr...

Re: Paisley Poor Law
Was home last week and spent a day in Paisley Library where the 2 chaps couldn't have been more helpful. I had so many family members in the records that I was there for hours taking pictures of the pages. There were too many to take notes in my limited time. Hopefully next time I can get from the M...

Re: Edinburgh Prisons c. 1901.
Hi WilmaM,
God that sounds ominous. I've tried Scotlands People and I'm getting zip in 1886. There's an Isabella (Dodds) Lumsden death in 1896, but it's not her.
She has vanished without trace.
Christine.

Re: Edinburgh Prisons c. 1901.
I've checked the header pages but all it says is HM Prison, Edinburgh. One of the following pages does specify 'Canongate', but Saughton didn't open until 1920. If anyone knows anything about Robert Lumsden, Born Auchtermuchty c. 1852. Moved to Wilton and married Isabella Dodds from Dumfries. In 190...

Another rather belated Happy Birthday to Talking Scot. A wee quick look at my details shows and I see that I
passed my 10th anniversary with Talking Scot on August 3rd. Can't believe it's been so long.
Here's to many more. .

Edinburgh Prisons c. 1901.
Hi Folks, Can anyone tell me what prison was in Canongate, Edinburgh c. 1901. My husband's Gt Grandfather appears to have been languishing 'at Her Majesty's pleasure' at the taking of the census. I'm just trying to find any information on his crime, trial, sentence. Anything really. My first problem...
