Re: Researcher - Italy

Thanks Alan - I'll have a look (although you are much better at searching newspapers than I am) Neither my friend nor I can speak Italian - so should be fun :) She is also not very computer literate, hence wanting a researcher. Thanks Arthur, I did see that site - it said they mainly concentrated on...

Researcher - Italy

I have a friend wanting to research family from Italy. I have found some minimal information via the familysearch site but otherwise very little. She is thinking to get a researcher to help in the search. Does anyone have any recommendations for same.

thanks

SP Credits

I obviously haven't been doing much Scottish research recently. Just had an email from SP telling me I have 6 credits - which I guess is one document - soon to expire. If someone would like to use my credits - answer here (I guess only the first answer will be valid) & PM the details. I think I have...

Re: TalkingScot's 15th birthday

I lurked on the site for two and a half years before I registered. Either it was because of my slow computer, or that I couldn’t think of anything to say. I suspect that, sadly, many of the original TalkingScot members are now doing their genealogy “In the cloud”, so to speak. All the best, Alan Ju...

Re: Gellions Hotel Bridge St Inverness

Hi Wilma & Jenfef I don't get thread notifications but I do get message notifications - so I have replied to Jenfef after receiving a pm. I think we are 4th cousins - no doubt to be confirmed. Slightly daunting that this thread is 10 years old - seems like yesterday I was researching this branch of ...

Re: Ancestry dna

Thanks John I was thinking if they were into genealogy I would have found them online - as I found all the other distant cousins. I'm a little wary of the dna - but many thanks for your response - gives me more to think about. If I'd been doing this 30 years ago, I may well have made the trip to Ire...

Re: Married names

All the wills I have from Scotland refer to married woman as Mary Smith or Jones (both when making the will or as beneficiaries) - as mentioned by others. I find the census is hit and miss. A majority of my ancestors use their married names but a significant number are listed under their birth names...

Re: Ancestry dna

Has anyone found any Irish family through dna? I have found & contacted 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th cousins in US, Canada, Australia, NZ, England & Scotland without using dna. The only branch I haven't been able to trace outside Australia have been my Irish families - whose descendants came here in 1850s ...
