Re: Where did you hear of TalkingScot? (2013)

Hi Tracey, welcome back! Out there, there are those who love their Macs. I believe they are the best thing for publishing, music and the like. I have always had a Mac since the very beginning when I was in graduate school in the 1980s. It was perfect for the sound analysis I was doing at the time as...

Re: English Records on Ancestry

Hello Shortfuse, Ross is correct that it would help to know the name of the record set you are referring to. When you pull up the information page, before clicking on View Image, is there a Volume and Page Number indicated? If so, search again with only the county, volume and page number and no name...

Re: John George Bryan

Hello Janice and a warm [TS_welcome] The original poster (Kate) has not been on the forum since 2011 :( but perhaps with a great deal of luck, (and if her email address hasn't changed in the interim) she will get a notification of your post. If you have any specific questions, I'm sure there are man...

Re: #52Ancestors Challenge

Is anybody else doing the 52 ancestors in 52 weeks challenge? I regularly start out composing write-ups every year since this challenge began a few years back... but never actually carry through to the end! In addition, I ignore the prompts and just write about an ancestor who interests me and who ...

Fascinating! Thanks, Alan. Gives us all something to read while we are confined to our houses. [cheers]

Re: Problem with My Heritage

Dear Lorna, It is indeed good to be in touch again! I'm so sorry for the loss of your sister. I thought that Easton Girdwood was an individual! So no wonder I couldn't find him  I now see the tree you mention. Martha Matthews(1906-1972) married Robert Clelland Girdwood (1907-1994) in 1934 in U...

Re: Problem with My Heritage

Hi Lorna, I currently have a subscription to My Heritage, but when I search for Easton Girdwood, there are only two "results:" one an Easton Grathead and the other a William Easton Greathead who died in 1961. So, in fact, no actual results of interest. In fact, I can't replicate your Google s...

Re: What do the letters mean?

Hello, Maureen
It was on Ancestry.com, but requires a subscription. If you don't have one, perhaps your local library might?

Best wishes,
Sarah

Re: What do the letters mean?

After searching around I assume you got this from Ancestry.com and that you are looking at the 1940 Register of Voters. If you browse to the beginning of the book (image 4), it tells you what the letters mean. Electors whose names are prefixed with the capital letter D vote at Parliamentary Election...
