Hi Laura,
I believe that the Abbeyhill you are looking for was/is part of Edinburgh. There is still a street called Abbeyhill and an Abbey Lane, Abbey Street and so on. They are all between Holyrood Park and London Road.
Thanks
Brian

Re: Hartwood Asylum
Hi Carole, There is more information about Hartwood here: http://www.bobbysimpson.org.uk/HARTWOOD_HOSPITAL.htm My 3 x great grandfather was one of the first patients at Hartwood when in opened in 1895. Although he was living in the Motherwell/Wishaw area, his health seems to have deteriorated in the...

Re: looking for a grave possibly near to Anniesland?
Hi, Another option might be to look at the http://www.memento-mori.co.uk/ site, which has transcriptions of headstones across a number of different cemeteries. It's not complete but more cemeteries seem to be added fairly regularly. Some of the Glasgow ones are listed and others that might well be i...

Re: Paisley History
Hi Jim, You might be aware that there is a Storie Street in Paisley town centre, presumably with some family connection to Capt. Storie. Have you tried the Local Studies folk at Paisley Library? They may be able to help or point you in the right direction. You can contact them by email via the 'Cont...

Re: Paisley Abbey - stained glass window
Hi Arthur,
Apologies if you have done so already, but have you contacted the Abbey itself?

Irish Soldiers' Wills to 1917
Hi, I can't see whether this has already been posted here, but it was highlighted on the Rootschat message board that the National Archives of Ireland have added a free search facility for Irish Soldiers' Wills up to 1917. The link is here : http://soldierswills.nationalarchives.ie/search/sw/home.js...

Re: Private Peter Wilson WW1- 2nd Bn Royal Scots Fusiliers
Hi Makalalee, The Service Records and Medal Index Cards as suggested by Alan would be a good starting point, as the MIC would probably confirm the date he entered a 'theatre of war' - which would not be the same date as his date of enlistment. It seems that the National Archives of Scotland hold a P...

Re: Mitchell Library Lookup Please
Wish i had put my face on now! :D Hi Annette, Mine had run down my face by then after being drookit on the walk from the train station  . I was only in the Archives from about 12.30 to 1.30pm, then was looking at the microfilmed newspapers after lunch. I was the tall good looking one in the ...

Re: Mitchell Library Lookup Please
Hi Glenda, Here is the other one (DHEW 14/48) This application is very hard to read. The pages are almost like fine tracing paper and some writing has faded dramatically and in other places, ink has bled through onto the back of a page or the adjacent pages. There are some areas I could not read and...

Re: Mitchell Library Lookup Please
Hi Glenda, I was at the Mitchell this afternoon and found that there are two applications in the index for Margaret, both in 1872. The first has reference D-HEW 10/2/47 for Margaret McGhee (Pitt). Her application is on page 19 The second has reference D-HEW 14/48 for Margaret McGhie (Pitt). Her appl...
