Hello John

Brilliant! - that looks very likely. Thanks very much.

I'd never heard of Bangholm. Do you happen to know what Parish it would have belonged to?

Best wishes

Christina Laurie age 60 living at 47 Duke Street, (shedule no.50) South Leith, place of birth is given as in "Edinburghshire" - looks like Baugholur?? Bangholuer?? I'd be very grateful to anyone who can make it out as I'm stumped! Image is at: http://talkingscot.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-145

Whoops, not quite correct: both sisters died at 78 Bonnygate, not 60 Bonnygate which is the address mentioned in the 1871.

Many thanks for your help Davie and John. I've downloaded the death entry now - brilliant! Goes to prove yet again the myth that its a doddle if you are researching an unusual name!! If I had a pound for every spelling variation I've seen on "Goalen" I'd be able to buy...well, it might just about st...

Hi Davie and sporran

Thanks for that and well done! That one has been a puzzle for a while. Back to Scotlands People to have a look...

I now suspect that the 1871 census problem may be caused by initials being used again perhaps, if she was still in an asylum?

Best wishes

Just a few thoughts sping to mind but I feel sure you will already have covered these angles.. You say Charles was born Renfrewshire in the 1841 census. If you can narrow it down a bit to a Parish, see 1851 census suggestion below, you could look for his birth in the OPRs? You might be lucky and it ...

Hello Davie Many thanks for your reply. Pretty much as I suspected but good to have a second opinion on it. I'm just surprised they "got away with" declaring themselves to be a batchelor and a spinster when legally they weren't. ...although I suppose they could hardly have declared themsleves as mar...

Same couple married twice 1914 & again 1915? Any thought

This one has puzzled me for a while...
