Hi Jean ... The "white background with the wavy windows icon" means that Windows doesn't know what program to use to open that type of file. JayPee Hi Jean, Have you tried right clicking on the icon? This should show a list of options. One of them should say 'Open with' and left clicking on this sh...

John,

I'm sure you will have spotted this by now but looking back at the marriage dates of the children I think Douglas meant to type 15th June 1866.

Maybole

Hi Annette, Glad you like the Maybole website. I have been visiting it regularly for the last couple of years as my dad's family came from there. As a point of interest Mary McCartney's sister Margaret married James Currie. They had a daughter Sarah Currie who married William Murray in 1844. Their d...

Re: Cyber Seance 9

Right, here we go. First you have to get your Scottish Gaelic and your Irish Gaelic sorted out. Both are very similar, but the Irish pronounce it ‘Gay-lik’ while the Scots pronouce it ‘Gah-lik’ as in garlic. People will correct you if you get it wrong. Hi Bob, As an enumerator of the 1991 census in...

Hello HeatherK, nelmit & Andy, Thank you all for your speedy responses & helpful advice. Re: missing marriage

Hello everyone, Just joined today & we hope we are doing this right! We know that Adam Dunsmore, born 1830/2 in Airth, Stirling, married Margaret Ballantyne Bruce, born 02/05/1829 Edinburgh, but we cannot find this marriage in the OPR. Their first child Adam was born 06/12/1853 in Galashiels. Can a...

William HAY 1901

Hi Karen, There is a William HAY age 45 living in Dalry Ayr on the 1901 census. I think the 1861 & 1871 census records will shed more light on William's family. Hopefully the 1871 will be online soon. I found it interesting that the informant on Jane's death certificate was her son in law. What was ...

Re: Hay/Hannah

Hi Annette, Thanks for your reply. I'll have to keep a very open mind with all this. If i am on the right track with Jane being the daughter of Alexander and Marion, there is a submitted entry on the IGI that claims Jean b1834 died on 18 Feb 1861. The other bit of info that led me to believe Jane w...
