Jack - we certainly have confusion, but please don't back off! I think Alysone and I need to bat it back and forth a bit, do some pairing up and ruling out, and see what we're left with. At the moment it's like knitting a multi coloured sweater that's come off the needles - all the bits should join ...

Hi Jack & Alysone Jack the information you've gone to so much trouble to post is invaluable. Alysone - we have much work to do  Like we didn't know! I seem to recall we were so pleased to have cracked this lot (as we thought), we maybe weren't as thorough as we should have been. Thanks to Jack,...

Holy Moley Jack! Have you been outside at all in the last week :?: Thank you so much for all your efforts. I have not digested it yet  but I've printed your reply so I can look at all the various info a bit at a time. Some progress has been made with some of it but I'll sort it out and compare ...

Exactly right Alysone - Robert & Marion's daughter Marion married Ralph Plain Smith, joined the Mormon church in 1850 and took off to USA in 1856. But Marion wasn't the only Crookston to go off in search of a better life. Descendents of Robert and Rosina also made the journey as Pioneers. Marion & R...

Hi Alysone and Scozzie

I don't have any claim to the Birds or Bathgates I'm afraid, but Robert Crookston 1780 was my 3rd great-grandfather - his second wife Marion Fairholm being my 3rd great-grandmother. Maybe some closer connections are out there?

Best wishes

Re: Access to view my tree on GR

:D I never give access to my GR tree, but direct people to my tree on Rootsweb, which gives privacy to living members. Sorry for the rant folks. Been wanting to get that out of my system for ages. :D Hi all I contacted GR about this when they first put the "open tree" on default - I've posted on ot...

Thanks Mary - that makes sense and does ring a bell. I believe I read that people HAD to do any kind of work they could (and FIT could be open to interpretation I guess). So there may be some info to be gleaned from poor records.

Best wishes

Jack thank you so much for your efforts here. Andrew Scougal is new to me, so I haven't got anything on him other than the two census years when he's with his granny. I've no idea at this point who the Ormistons and Kilgours might be, so you've given me a good starting point. As an aside, I noticed ...

Hi Andrew - thanks for that - I've just been looking at it a few minutes ago myself, but the lightbulb hasn't gone on yet. Wee Andrew Scougal/Scongal's granny was Mary Crookston m.s. Darling (on the page before Andrew) so try as I might I can't fit Isabella or Andrew into that family. I was wonderin...
