Re: Naming a daughter

Did either Alexander or Ann die in Scotland? If so, what do their death certificates say about their father’s name?

Re: Irish records

Bill, Deaths from 1864 to 1870 (for all of Ireland) have not been put on-line yet. 10 years ago none of these Irish births, deaths or marriages were on line. They have been gradually added batch by batch. The last remaining batch is the 1864 to 1870 deaths. Someone is working on them (one person) be...

Re: Father's WWII Naval Records Online

Scott, Unfortunately, all official 'Service Records' for WW2 personnel are still restricted and only held by the Ministry of Defence (MOD) as they are still protected under the UK Data Protection Act and the MOD's own Policies. So they are not on-line anywhere. You can apply for them if the person i...

Re: Accuracy

The surname Robinson (and Robertson, which is interchangeable) is very common in Co Antrim. There’s about 2700 in the 1901 census of the county. However the vast majority were Protestant. Only 254 were RC. So if the bride was a Robinson, she may have been protestant at some point and if so, at that ...

Re: Accuracy

Orlaith, I read the baptism as “7th Hugh Hannan of Hugh and Jane Robinson, Lenagh, sps (sponsors) Bernard Hannan and Ellen Doyle.” Plus a fee of 2 shillings. I agree that the word Maggee appears just above Robinson. I don’t know what to make of that. It could be her previous surname (ie she was a wi...

Re: Accuracy

Delighted to hear of your success. Sounds like it must be the right family. Those records are supposed to be on Ancestry but some of the transcriptions leave a bit to desired and so sometimes you don’t find records when you should. Nothing to beat going through the originals to double check. If you ...

Re: Accuracy

I had a look in the RC parish records for a marriage for Hugh Hannan & Jane but without success. Likewise no sign of Thomas’s baptism nor that of any siblings. I see from the marriage certificate that Hugh was dead by 1880 but Jane still alive. Death registration started in 1864. I searched 1864 to ...

Re: Cause of death for executed prisoners?

I think it varies . Joseph Fee from Clones was executed in Armagh Prison on 22.12.1904. The wording says: “Hanged by the neck till dead under sentence of death.” However John Moan who was executed in Londonderry on 5.1.1904 has: “Dislocation of the vertebrae of the neck by hanging. Instantaneous.”

Re: National Assistance Act Funerals

Just had a look at that list, and, in a way, feel as if it is quite inappropriate and the information given must surely be against GDPR (I know that that is not regulated for deceased persons but this information may make connections with living people in the deceased's family?)? After all, you can...
