Re: Alfred O S Boyd
I had a bit of a look around the newspapers but nothing jumped out at me.
Alfred O S Boyd was born in Glasgow, not long after WW1, and perhaps the names of Oakley and Stockley came from deceased soldiers who the family had known.
The Scottish National War Memorial has only one WW1 death with surname Stockley, and he's from Glasgow. Private George Stockley, 29038, The Royal Scots Fusiliers, KIA 24 April, 1917. https://www.snwm.org/content/roll-searc ... rofdeath=0
For Oakley the SNWM has 16 names, about ten of which are WW1, and about half of those are Canadians. (But probably born Scotland). Some could be English conscripted into Scottish regiments. https://www.snwm.org/content/roll-searc ... rofdeath=0
I can't see any where a link to Glasgow is mentioned, The George Oakley in the Royal Naval Division was from Dundee.
If you want to follow this up maybe you could check the Boyd family in the 1911 census to see if any Stockley or Oakley families lived nearby.

Re: Alfred O S Boyd
There's an interesting 1919 marriage in Glasgow of Alfred Stockley to Margaret McCann (widow; ms. McInally). Alfred Stockley's mother's maiden surname was Oakley.
On looking at that marriage certificate, and the 1914 certificate you mentioned earlier, Margaret and Catherine were sisters.
So, it looks like his names were from his uncle (by marriage), Albert Stockley, and Uncle Albert's mother, Louisa Stockley (ms. Oakley).
All the best,
AndrewP

AndrewP,
Thankyou for the information. Makes things a little clearer however, I am a little confused. The marriage certificate I have states Alfred`s mother as Catherine Murray McInally daughter of Marrion Murray.
Am I missing something?

1914 certificate:
Margaret's first marriage, to Joseph McCann, can be found in Glasgow in 1915. On that certificate, Margaret is listed with a middle name: Margaret Younger McInally, Confectionery Worker (spinster), with parents as given above on her 1919 marriage certificate. Younger was her maternal grandmother's maiden surname (can be found on her mother's death certificate of 1913).
All the best,

- John Campbell Boyd, Tilelayers Labourer (Bachelor)
parents: John Boyd, Ship Carpenter (deceased) and Catherine Boyd (ms. Campbell) - Catherine Murray McInally, Kitchen Maid (spinster)
parents: James McInally, Cab Driver (deceased) and Marion McInally (ms Murray, deceased)
- Alfred Stockley, Coal Miner (Bachelor)
parents: Thomas Stockley, Coal Miner and Louisa Stockley (ms. Oakley) - Margaret McCann, Munition Worker (widow)
parents: James McInally, Cab Driver (deceased) and Marion McInally (ms Murray, deceased)
One of the witnesses was Catherine Boyd.
