looking for in search of a birth record for someone who on the census is described as being born in Abbeyhill midlothian. Can someone tell me which district of Edinburgh this would come under when searching on Scotlands people. The name and YOB has multiple hits for Midlothian so need find out the District Abbeyhill is not listed as an option

Hi Laura,

I believe that the Abbeyhill you are looking for was/is part of Edinburgh. There is still a street called Abbeyhill and an Abbey Lane, Abbey Street and so on. They are all between Holyrood Park and London Road.

Hi Laura,

Depending where exactly in Abbeyhill, it could have come under Canongate or Portobello registration districts. These two districts were merged from 1939.
