William Mckenzie

Post by denisebain » Tue Aug 23, 2016 11:13 am

I am tring to find information regarding William McKenzie who emmigrated to New Zealand in 1843-4 on the Theresa. He married Mary Ann Davis on the 17th April 1844, they had two sons John b 1848 and Alexander. William was a shipwright and was from Aberdeen he died around 1858 while working on a freight run from Wellington to Christchurch. We have information about John and his decendants but can find nothing regarding William and Mary Ann.
Any help would be appreciated

Hello Denisebain, and a warm welcome to TalkingScot [talkingscot]

In the 1841 census for Aberdeen there are 9 William McKenzie references, of those it is most likely your William is: MACKENZIE, WILLIAM Male 20 ABERDEEN ABERDEEN CITY/ABERDEEN 168/0A 014/00 031, as there is one aged 60, 2 aged 13 and the rest younger, so not likely to be a shipwright or married.

You have a date for the marriage, but mention nothing as to the place. I see no record in http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ which is a pay-as-you-go government of Scotland site. Currently, members can acquire 7 free credits using the voucher code summer16 You could perhaps sign up and use the credit to check it out.

If you can locate that, you may get the names of parents and their original locations.
