Same stewart clark family...different question

Post by Sunnydaze » Sat Apr 01, 2017 1:35 am

ALexina Townsley(Stewart Clark) my maternal grandmother had two children that died in the same yr. Robert Egan Townsley died nov 15, 1942 at only 4 months. And his sister Elizabeth Thomson Townsley died jan. 6 1942. Both died in Perth. Is there any way to find out where they were buried? Does anyone have knowledge of what cemeteries there were in Perth at that time? I know the family was catholic. My mom was married at st. Johns RC in perth.

Hi Sunnydaze,

On ScotlandsPeople, amongst the church records on ScotlandsPeople, there are records from the Scottish Catholic Archives. On searching their death / burial records, using only the surname Townsley, and no other criteria (such as year range, first name or location) there are only 9 results. These are eight in St Peters Dalbeth Cemetery, Glasgow and one in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Edinburgh. The years range from 1873 to 2004, including four in the 1940s, but none have the first names that you are looking for.

Perth is not a city that I know well, but on Googling the place, I didn't find a Catholic cemetery. So I don't know if there is a Catholic cemetery that I didn't find; or a cemetery of choice used by Catholic families in that area; or if they are buried in the general cemeteries along with folks of any faith (or none).

Two sources to consider are local newspapers, and burial records.

Burial records look to be expensive to research.

As for local newspapers. Archives of many of these and other documents are held in the A K Bell Library in Perth.

They may be able to undertake some searches on your behalf.
