Scars so young.

Post by Orlaith17 » Sun Apr 23, 2017 5:33 pm

I have recently uncovered documents to indicate that my grandfather served in the Militia, Black Watch from May 1905. He was discharged June 1906. He was aged 17 years and 7 months at the time. An interesting point on the paperwork was the description of tattoos and scars. He had 3 scars on his shoulders and one on his buttock. I was wondering if he might have been compelled to complete this service as some sort of punishment? Could the scars have been birch marks? Might he even gave had to serve on the Mars prior to this? I would love to know any theories on this. His father was deceased at this point, but his mother still alive. He was the only boy, and youngest of his family.
