Trying to trace family of William Boyd and Maria Lovie
I am trying to trace the family of William Boyd (1863 - 1899) and Maria Lovie (1861 - 1914). William and Maria were married 1888 in Aberdeen. Maria died 1914 in New Machar. The had 3 sons William b.1891, John b. 1894 and George 1898. I am unable to find them after death of Maria. Can anyone assist please.

Do you have Maria's death certificate?
It should show the name address and relationship of whoever reported her death - one of her sons I would imagine.
That could help find the family in 1911 census.
A newspaper announcement of her death may give further details of the family.
The boys may well have enlisted in the army 1914-18 so looking at casualty lists may be another way to find them.
I think the Gordon Highlanders would be the obvious choice for New Macher lads.

It may be worthwhile mentioning the occupations of the sons in 1911 and their places of birth.
I can't find an Obit for Maria, do you know her date of death?
There's an Obit for William in the Aberdeen Weekly Journal, Wednesday, June 14, 1899, detailed in a previous thread. The whole thread is worth a read if you haven't seen it. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=17422&start=10#p139531
All the best,
Alan

Maria`s death was in Kingseat Asylum in Aberdeen. Certificate was signed by the house secretary. No mention of her sons. Have not been able to trace family in 1911 census

Hi Dave,
I have an answer for the eldest son, William. He died in hospital in Aberdeen in 1915, aged 24 years. You can download his death certificate from ScotlandsPeople. His death was registered in the district of Rubislaw. The death was registered by the governor of the hospital, so no family names or addresses to find there.
In the 1911 census:
There is a possibility that William is the 19-year old that is in Aberdeen Poorhouse (Newhills Registration District), described as feeble minded.
George could be the boarder on a farm in the Chapel of Garioch registration district.
All the best,
AndrewP

Thank you Andrew,
I have downloaded death certificate for William. How sad the family were doing so well until the death of William Boyd senior. I hope the two younger sons John and George had a better life. Hopefully I will be able to trace them.
Regards

Hi Dave,
The two possibilities in my post above for William (19) and George (13) are from the 1911 census. I have now added a note into that post to say so.
I take it the 1898 birth year that you give for George is calculated from the 1901 census. You will find his birth certificate in 1897. At the time of the 1901 census, he was days short of his fourth birthday, but was correctly given as age 3 on the day of the census. Similarly, John's birth can be found in 1893.
All the best,
AndrewP

Thank you Andrew,
I have downloaded 1911 census for George. It seems to fit but not conclusive. No idea what he would be doing there. Still not been able to trace John.
