Mitchell Library research

Post by shaigh » Sun Oct 08, 2017 2:30 am

Does anyone have a reliable contact who will look up specific requests in the Mitchell?

All the ones I have found only seem to quote for a whole family tree which I do not want? I just want to look up a death/burial of a James Russell Neilston 1836 -8. Have one record but only gives name and year. I also wanted to loook up Pooor Relief following this death by wife Janet Russell/Kirkland and children. Possibly Neilston or Carmunnock. Any ideas?

Hello Shaigh,

As far as I know there were no poorhouses at that time. You may be able to find something in the Kirk Sessions but you'd have to be sure of the area she lived at.

Have you found Janet in census records? I had a look but I'm not coming up with anything concrete.

Regards,
Annette
