?? Dale Street - Gorbals / Hutchestown
Hello
Question relating to a website site that was online early 2000's.
Would anyone recall a website that was about a diary of visits to a building on Dale Street ? I cannot remember the details, but it was about diary written by someone ( minister .. physician ? ) and it described the conditions of some of the families that lived in the building. Perhaps circa 1850 ? I have tried "wayback machine" to see if any of the pages are archived there with no success.
Wondering if the author of the site might have a book or any further research details. At the time I recall finding it very interesting. Now, in more recent years I find I may have a connection. Definitely with Dale Street. I'm not able to remember the street number that was the focus of the website.
Thanks,
Heather

Could this be "Diary of a Church Elder 1853-1854" in which he mentions visiting various families in Dale Street.
I have a copy ofthe transcript of this and could forward it.

Heather,
I am presuming that Falkyrn has hit the nail on the head. If that is the case then you need to be aware that there were two Dale Streets in the 1853/4 period.
The first was in Bridgeton on the north eastern side of the River Clyde. I believe it still exists today but is not the one to which you refer.
The second is south of the River Clyde and has been renamed as Tradeston Street. It still exists today. Your reference to Gorbals/ Hutchesontown suggests that this is it.

Yes, I am sure Falkryn has the correct title. The are south of the river Clyde. Thank you so much

Falkyrn,
Do you happen to recall the approximate year it was available online ?? I can try wayback machine now with the correct title. If you're able to email the transcript, that would be wonderful.
Thank you .. very much !

I thought I had found a route to the diary via Cindy's List with the following entry.
Hutchesontown U.P Church - Diary of a Church Elder 1853-54
The diary of an elder of Hutchesontown United Presbyterian Church, Glasgow, Scotland from September 1853 until October 1854.
https://www.cyndislist.com/presbyterian ... ty/?page=1
Sadly clicking on the link there took me to a "domain for sale" page.
All the best,
AndrewP

The file I have is dated 2008 - there is a disclaimer at the head of the first page stating that the diary is the property of Garrion Enterprises, possibly implying that there is more information available than that in the transcript. Unfortunately I can find nothing about this firm and looking at their website (www.garrion.co.uk) brings up the same domain for sale page that Andrew found via Cyndis list
Added: I've found the Web Crawled archive of the site on the wayback machine at www.archive.org but there doesn't appear to be much beyond the front page https://web.archive.org/web/20080701000 ... ion.co.uk/

Heather,
It's probably of no help whatsoever but the address of the Hutchesontown United Presbyterian Church was at 61 Hospital Street at the corner of Ballater Street in the Gorbals. The minister in 1854 was a J S Taylor.
Perhaps it may prove to be a wee missing piece in a big big jigsaw. We seem to be so near to answering the original question and yet so far.
