Y're favourite sweetie
How about us poor wartime kids.
Our favourite treat was a stick of Liquorice root, that lasted for days chewing the stuff and of course a cinammon stick. The boys at Primary school used to smoke them.
When sweetie's came back into the shops in Glasgow there was queues miles long.
I grew up thinking Dried Eggs and Dried Bananas were the norm. I wasn't too keen on the real things.

Keeping this thread on a genealogical bent. I think if we did our DNA it would prove we are related since we all seem to have the same sweet tooth gene!
Parma violets are still available, when I smell them it takes me back to my elderly teachers who always had a violet or lavender scented hankie stuck up their sleeve.
Walker's non such toffee ...... licquorice flavour if I have it !
Again on crisps, my company imports them at regular intervals and when Canadians see them, they marvel at the flavours, roast lamb and mint, four cheeses and red onion, Thai sweet chili. Over here they are getting "adventuresome" with lime and black pepper.

I agree wholeheartedly. Most Scots/Scottish descent that I know love sweets. This despite my poor Mother's attempts to sway her children onto fresh fruit& veg which we all enjoy but we love our grub & sweeties are an added attraction to the diet.
My brother is on a restricted diet as he is on dialysis but he has great willpower even when tempted by sweets.I have too but I choose to resist it!
I always have a "goody bag" on the go & all my Nieces& Nephews when they visit love a delve into my stash.Only by invitation though in case they eat my hard to source item.
Mint Carameltis biscuits from the Coop,Empire Bisciuts,Tipsy Cake from the baker in Dalmuir(can't remember the name now on Dumbarton Rd used to be across the bridge next to the Dr's)& my Mum's homemade merigunes& pear Tart& her cheesecake-heck I'm starving now.
Off to have my Roasted Pepper & avocada & Feta salad(followed by a Caramel wafer!)

I'm with Audrey on the Oddfellows - the ones I had were pink, yellow and orange and they were made by Kings. My mammy used to buy some on a Saturday and we'd eat them while we watched the politically incorrect minstrel show.
The orange ones were my favourite - if you sucked them for a bit they sort of dissolved in your mouth - unlike the other two colours which were just hard lumps of sugar.
I can't smell geranium oil without thinking about my mum and her oddfellows (orange ones had the same smell as geranium oil).
I bought some recently in an old fashioned sweetie shop in Galashiels but they weren't Kings and they weren't all that good either - maybe they never actually were. I know I was the only one (apart from ma mammy) who actually liked them.
And I'd completely forgotten Rosebuds - they were lovely.
'Scuse me, I'm off to snaffle the rest of my midget gems.

Sweet agonies was in the fifties, when Mum had a box of Black Magic or Dairy box and we sat around the telly,on a Saturday evening.
She would open the box and we took our time looking at the drawings of the various centres and deciding which one (caramel being the perennial favourite). When we had our first one and had enjoyed it, we sat in dire anticipation for it being passed around again and to an eight year old it seemed like an eternity (you can have a fifteen minute eternity can't you?) It was such a relief to see it coming around again, for we daren't ask.

Y're favourite sweetie
Because of my deprived childhood I now get a box of chocolates, look at the pictures and eat them all myself.
I wish you could still find Frys Chocolate Cream.

Passing through Brisbane in early June. Do you want to place a bulk order now?
Will this cause any problem for the Agricultural Dept on entry to Oz at Darwin? Do they have trained Fry's Cream sniffer dogs
Unfortunately, unlike haggis you can't get tinned Fry's Cream
