Yesterday I went to Princes Street Gardens where they had a large marquee hosting a number of St Andrews Day (weekend?) events. I had a look into the bar expecting to see it stocked with Scottish fare. There was Fosters Lager (Australian, brewed somewhere in UK under license), John Smith's Bitter (England), Smirnoff Vodka (Russian, made somewhere in the UK under license), a few other spirit bottles, and a token bottle of Scotch.

Happy St Andrews Day :D

In Winnipeg we had a great series of events, culminating in our 138th annual dinner, attended by well over 500 Scots, who celebrated The Day in the appropriate style. Guest speaker was George Reid, who did an absolutely fabulous job.His wife Daphne was also a big hit, and we all enjoyed a great blether with her. Two great ambassadors of Scotland.

We'll be having a St. Andrew's dinner here in the desert next Saturday evening (this week was Thanksgiving weekend and lot's of folks out of town).

We're expecting 120 people for the dinner. The Palm Springs Pipe Band will entertain us and the pipe major of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Pipe band will also be on hand to play for us.

Looking forward to the event.

Happy St. Andrew's day to all.

St. Andrews Day

Andrew,
May I ask why you were looking in the bar?
I don't ever remember anyone celebrating St. Andrews day in Glasgow and it isnt really celebrated in Australia although I know the St. Andrews Day Society had their Ball at Government House on Saturday night in Perth.

It never has been a big celebration in Scotland. I think it is a marketing ploy of the devolved government in Scotland.

All the best,

Andrew
