1819 Map of Kilmarnock

Post by Margaret » Thu Aug 04, 2005 2:39 am

Hello to all
Thought I would share this page with anyone intersted in Kilmarnock in 1819. It is a handwritten map, and shows all the houses in the town and who lived in them. Also shows who owned outlying property as well. Hope you enjoy as I have
.

Hi Margaret

Thanks for the site as I have ancestors from there and it will help find where abouts they lived. Look forward to looking at it in more detail.

Hi Margaret,

That Kilmarnock map is quite excellent - great detail when you zoom in.

Nancy, the Paisley Museum has copies of an 1839 map of the town for sale. I've got one pinned up on the wall!
Well worth getting - it too has really good details.

Hello to all
Yes it is a great map, and I have found a site where you can purchase old maps and it looks like there are other places with maps like the Kilmarnock one.
Glad everyone is enjoying the map, I am lucky I have two families living in kilmarnock at that time.

There are several town plans by John Wood.

Have a look at the National Library of Scotland's web site it gives them among other town plans.

http://www.nls.uk/digitallibrary/map/early/towns.html

should take you to a long list that you can click and view.
