Hello to all
When I was a wee girl, mum would recite a poem about "my last baubee" or maybe it was "my first Baubee" not sure of spelling but I think it meant penny. I have asked friends if they have heard of this poem and nobody can help. So I am hoping that there is someone out there in TS that can maybe help me with the words from it or where I can get a copy. Many thanks, it is just one of the many wonderful memories of a wee glasgow woman that I have. still a broad scot after many years in New Zealand.

Hi Margaret,
Is It Ally Bally, Ally Bally Be that you're thinking about. I think most of us had this sung to us when we were wee by our grannies, and anyone else who was responsible for trying to get us to sleep at night. I'm pretty sure that the are several verses to this, but all I can remember is:
Ally Bally, Ally Bally Be
Sittin on yer mammies knee,
Greetin fur a wee bawbee,
Tae buy some coulter's candy.
Hope this helps.
Christine.
PS. Try electricscotland(.) com. They have some old poems and verses on there.

I remember the song myself, but unfortunately I cant remember the words that go with it.
It was sung to me by my mother to get me to sleep too

Hello Merlot
I wnet to rampant scotland, and looked up poems..and there it was..My first Bawbee, I cant thank you enough for leading me to that page, I have been looking for years..I can nearly hear her when I read the words. Once again many many thanks from one very happy Aussie.
