Perhaps not the right time to mention this, but I see on my online news tonight that Dell are starting to offer new laptops with XP again, as Vista does not seem to be the bee´s knees. Apparently the result of consumer pressure.

Hope this does not raise anyone´s blood pres......

Must admit I am not surprised, it seems to have locked us out of a lot of our documents.

I decided to do a wee bit of investigating.

After taking a ghost image of my lappy I completely cleared it, just to make sure there was no chance of any interference, and installed Vista.

Suffice it to say that, after installing my usual programmes and putting some of my files back (we're talking a few hours work here) and trying to use it over a period of 3 days, I then spent a further couple of hours getting rid of it! There have been buggy versions of Windows in the past, but never as bad as this one.

And, if you do a system check to see if your existing setup will run with Vista, (this usually includes current drivers and progs), don't take the results as gospel! I only installed the stuff the Vista compatability check said was OK. It turned out that an uncomfortablly high percentage weren't, but had not been mentioned at all!

I don't think Dell will be that last manufacturer to do this.
