Tip -- Clear up disk space on your Apple Mac

Post by daj » Sat Apr 25, 2009 6:37 pm

I was just noticing that the disk space on my laptop is getting a little tight and wonder what I should start removing. By chance I happened across an article on the very subject of disk space for the Applce Mac.

Apart from all the usual advice there was one tip in particular I thought I would share....

Apple Mac's running OSX come pre-installed to support over 50 languages so your computer hard disk is jam packed with all the files to provide this. Given that I only speak a few languages, and only use one on the laptop I decided to remove them. It's completely safe, although if you want to re-add the languages then you have to re-install the operating system. Let's face it, as an English speaking person I have no need for Vietnamese or Finnish, for example.

Download this free tool and let it remove the languages you do not want. I was able to free up almost 4Gb of disk space!!!!!

Sorry, for all you non-Apple Mac people, this tip is not relevant

Interesting tip, David!
As a mac person, it is relevant to me... But as a linguist I just can't bear to erase all those languages

Cheers,
Sarah
