Windows Vista and SP images

Post by Lorna Allison » Fri Apr 06, 2007 10:49 pm

Hi there

I am trying to learn to love my new computer with Vista. Wonder if anyone else with Vista is having problems seeing/printing images on SP?

I can't get either ActiveX or Java to load and SP are not answering my emailed request for info. Ominous sign  :?:

My 30 day "Early Life Support" :!: :!: :!: software mentors are clueless too, both in Derry and Bangelore. Ah me, if only all this had happened one year hence, when Vista had bedded in.

Hi Lorna,

I've been around computers for a long time now. As a result, I haven't upgraded to Vista yet. Don't trust Monstersoft stuff till it's been "out there" long enough for other folk to sort out the glitches

However, I have been getting a fair few complaints from folk who have bought new PC's with this installed. None have, as yet, had any constructive response from either the MS bunch or anyone else whose software is being affected.

Maybe someone else has better news?

Hi Lorna,

Until such time as revised versions of these viewers become available, it looks like the best option will be for you to use the direct download method. Please let us know if that is successful for you.

All the best,

Hi Lorna

I use the direct download and view and print the images with the free program irfanview - it has a lovely printing option "Best fit to page" :D

I'd suggest that you email them again, and press for an answer, if only on the basis that they have had several reports of difficulties with ActiveX & Java and Vista, as that at least lets you know that the problem is at your end, if it's not at their end.

(Have you had a look at the Java website to see if there are any such reported problems with downloading images from the web? There may be a Java upgrade for Vista that requires to be downloaded.)

Keep us posted please, as this could be a problem for other TS members who switch, or are switched, to Vista.

See AndrewP's advice re changing to the Direct Download method.

A new "flash viewer" is due to be launched in the future by ScotlandsPeople to replace ActiveX, - hopefully this will be compatible with Vista :!: .

In the meantime there's no alternative except Direct Download.

I use a Mac where ActiveX was never an option - the Direct Download method works great - the files open directly in the browser window from where they can be saved with a name like M1892_716_00_0004Z.tif

The SunSystems site is still not listing Vista as compatible. I have to say I'm surprised a company their size weren't prepared for Vista's release.

Although this isnt related to the problem at hand. I dont have Vista, but the other day I downloaded an update for Legacy for Vista users. AS it was download I realised it was an update for Vista but thankfully it didnt do any damage to my programme. They notificatation it was a Vista update was on another section of the page.

Although you would think organisations would be ready for Vista, it could be a case of having to wait for the release, you know what Microsoft is like about their copywrite!

Ahhh Vista, I like the new interface but I hate the permissions stuff that they have.

Just got it with my new laptop and it can be a pain in the backside at times. I have been trying to save images from the Java viewer and it tells me that I do not have permissions to save to the desktop. Yet I am signed in as Administrator and I only have that one account. It then saves it in my pictures folder but when I go to look it has disappeared but can still be seen in the save as window (hidden files are visible is on).

Andy,

I,ve gone through the Monstersoft site with a fine tooth comb and...

A) Finding the support stuff for Vista is no mean feat. On the basic support page Vista is NOT even listed as an OS!

B) Entering "do not have permissions to save to the desktop" in the search box comes up with everything BUT what you need.

You have 90 days free online support with Vista. Why don't you contact them. They claim you will get a response by "end of next working day"
