Hi Jean

How common a name is the brides's father's? If not John Smith or similar and you have the mother's first name from the censuses you could have a search on FreeBMD for the marriage of the bride's parents and see if there is anything with the correct man's name and the correct female first name around the right time and in the right place. You never know you might strike lucky.

Mind you you've probably tried that already.

Hi Anne

This is my first venture into English Records.

All I know about this lady is that her name is Jane Pimblett and she was married 23 Feb 1911 to John Manchester in Lancashire. This from his army records and confirmed on Free BMD.

I have found a "likely one" in 1901 aged 11 in St Helens Lancashire, which is the right area. She had a sister called Margaret and a Margaret is shown there aged 14.

That's all I have to go on at the moment

Best wishes
Jean

Hi Jean

If that is she then I think her birth was registered in Prescot in the March quarter of 1890 reference Prescot 8b 770.

However there are a few other possibles around so what I would do if I were you is get the marriage certificate which would give you her father's name and occupation and possibly a clue from the witnesses. Then use that to confirm which is your lass on the census which should give you her birth and get the BC and you're laughing!! If ordering an English BC in my memory you can specify a father's name so that if you've picked the wrong one they won't send it and won't charge you so it's not as big a lottery as it seems.

I think the mother of that one just may have been an Elizabeth Hunter but that is a stab in the dark!

Just spent the afternoon with my friend going through all the details. She is busy now creating her family tree using Legacy.

She now knows where she is going...............I think!!!

Good luck to your friend with that. You may need to be on hand to bail her out when she gets stuck by the sound of it. If she does find out who the parents of Jane Pimlett were would love to know as I have a bet with myself that it is William and Elizabeth Hunter or maybe Samuel and Margaret!!

Hi Anne

Further investigation reveals that William and Samuel are brothers!

William married Elizabeth Hunter and Samuel married Margaret Hunter.

What's the betting the females are sisters!

Best wishes

Ah that explains why Samuel and Margaret also have a child with the middle name Hunter!

I did wonder.
