Hello Mary,

It’s hard to say. It certainly looks like the same person, in which case you would think there could only be one registration and one certificate with the aka or whatever. But what worries me a bit is that I’ve always thought of Edward and Edwin being more or less the same, a bit like Helen and Ellen etc and I don’t know whether they would get the double entry treatment or why they would bother. But I guess this sort of thing can vary greatly depending on how someone responds to the registration questions and how a particular official asks them or records the information.

What time period are we talking about, deaths after the mid 1860s or thereabouts show the age in the index or the date of birth I think in very recent ones. Do these details if present also match each other exactly? If you haven’t done so maybe you could check the original index image on FreeBMD or wherever if it’s available to make sure the transcription looks reasonable.

I’m probably the worst person to be offering advice about purchasing English certificates as I’ve never actually taken the jump. It may be worth a read of the “Ordering Certificates” link on the page I previously posted, there are some traps, it seems, when supplying extra information. The trouble with English certificates is that they contain very little information.

All the best,
Alan

Alan,

Edwin/Edward died in 1925, a time I had assumed (probably incorrectly) would be more likely to be accurate.

I'm more convinced than ever now that I'm really going to have to get the DC for Edwin at least.

 Why couldn't our rellies have been more considerate or the "powers that be" be more intuitive
