Jean and Jean,

We have the 1891 and 1901 Census's for James Collings and his family in Manchester but nothing for those periods in Aylesbury. Are these available?

We're going to be calling it quits here later tonight and prepare for the trip back north over the border in the Easter traffic. Thanks again for all your help - both of you. Will keep you posted on the results of the MC when it arrives. This whole exercise involves the tracing of my future Daughter in Law's ancestors. In following the events of the past few days she's been bitten by the bug - she's even suggested she may join TS!

Be seeing you.

Bob.

Hello Bob,
As promised I checked the the BMD indexes and this is all I could find,

LEVENIONA ISABELLA COLLINGS, death age 39 Alesbury, 1867 Sept 3a 300,

I have never heard of that name before, it is not a mistrancription it reads the same on both the indexes and freeBMD,
Regards,
Jean.

Thanks for that Jean (Watts). What a strange and unusual name! Given her age it would seem likely she’s a child of the ‘original’ family of the James Collings b.1772. Her absence at the ’51 Census is probably due to her being in her twenties by that time and having moved away from home. There is so much about this family just waiting to be discovered.

But we’re being very patient until that MC comes through: although it’s virtually certain that the later James Collings’s middle name was Woodbridge and not Henry. We’ll wait and see if the MC confirms that before proceeding further.

Meantime, I’m back in Scotland, and one of the first things I did was log on to Scotland’s People. Didn’t do any searching or anything. Just sat looking at the homepage for a few seconds, thinking about the previous week - wrestling with the English records - appreciating what we have on this side of the border.

Many thanks again for your help. Looking forward to finding out more about Leveniona in due course.

Cheers

Bob.
