I'm new to genealogy and through my idiocy I signed up for Genes Reunited's credits without realising that it only covers records in England in Wales. I now have 49 credits left and can't use them as none of my known relatives had anything to do with England/Wales. The credits expire in 4-5 days and it'd be a shame to see them go to waste. So, if anyone else wants a search done for E/W either post or pm me the info and I'll do it for you
I've got credits for Scotland's People now and bought the image of my great-grandparents marriage info. It was completely illegible but I emailed them and they're getting me a new scan So while my first foray into genealogy has been a bit of a mess I feel like I'm starting to get on track now!
Welcome C.
I know you will get an official welcome from the T.S admins & Mods.
But let me be the first to say it, you will receive a lot of help from the people here.
I don't have any Welsh or English folks, but thanks for the kind offer.

Thank you for the kind welcome wini. I'm sure I'll be posting here with problems before long, my family is huge and I just found out that my grandfather had ten brothers and sisters so that's lots of branches to explore already!
I do have one question that perhaps someone here can answer. Has anyone traced Norwegian relatives and how did you go about it?
That is a generous offer and perhaps you'll get a few pm messages to help you use up those credits. I don't have many in England or Wales myself!
There are lots of friendly members always willing to help in whatever way they can, and hopefully someone with Norwegian relatives will come along to give you some guidance on how to begin searching there.
Hi C
I have been caught up in this very addictive genealogy for about 9 years now and my very first attemps were Norwegian! I am Scottish but my American ex husband is of Norwegian descent and my sons were very interested in their Norwegian surname. After much poking around I found a great website which also has a forum very similar to this one, the people are as helpful as they are here and most of them speak English. In the beginning I got a Norwegian-English dictionary from the library and just muddled my way through but I now have the family tree back to 1490. That is a lot more than I can say for my side of the family, my Irish side are impossible and I can't even find where my grandparents are buried in Glasgow!!
My sons' great grandfather came to America in 1903 and I only knew his name , his birth place (Drammen) and his mother's name but it was enough to start searching with and I have great results. Norwegians do not move around a lot , many of them stayed in the same areas for many generations and that is a big help.
Here are the websites I used but if you Google Norwegian Genealogy you will get many more. http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/We ... r&spraak=e http://da2.uib.no/cgi-win/WebDebatt.exe ... r&spraak=e

Hi again, I forgot to tell you the Digitalarkivet comes in Norwegian but there is a place on the menu where you can click to make it English. I do not often get a chance to help anyone so if this is useful to you I will be quite pleased as I have had a ton of help from all the nice people on here. If you have any questions about the sites I would be glad to try and help you out.
Cathie
Thanks for the welcomes Cathie, thank you so much for the Norwegian websites, I really appreciate it! I haven't had a chance to look around much yet but I'll let you know how I get on with my searching.
Oh and I've ran out of credits on Genes Reunited now so I can't offer help anymore
