GRO for English Certs?

Post by Dennis » Mon May 05, 2008 7:21 pm

Hi:)

How do I get the GRO for a marriage record in England? I have the date of the event as well as the volume and page number.

Forgot to ask what to put for the box 'Please type your personal reference for this application.'

Hi Dennis
The web site is at www.gro.gov.uk
Click on Order Certificates Order online
Forgot to ask what to put for the box 'Please type your personal reference for this application.'
That is just a reference so that you knw what it is, as far as I remember. If if was a marriage between say, Ann Smith & John Brown, I'd just put soemthign like "Smith Brown marriage" or something similar.

Best wishes
Lesley

Thank you Lesley :) Got the order request completed and sent.

Took me a bit of time to notice that there was no mark to say that the 'Personal Reference' was required:/

Hi Dennis
Glad you got the thing ordered.
Took me a bit of time to notice that there was no mark to say that the 'Personal Reference' was required
I've never really noticed if it was needed or not as my total number of English certs ordered over the years is only about 5 or 6 I think!
I guess it might be a useful to have a reference if you were ordering a number of certs all at once and they needed to contact you with a problem with one of them.

Best wishes
Lesley

I think that is pretty standard for English certs.

It is disappointing when you are used to the Scots ones with a bit more info....

I see in Findmypast that the is listed in:

Births , GRO CONSULAR BIRTH INDICES (1849 to 1965) 1896 - 1900
Page 1 of 1 LEITCH-LEVISON

He is listed as being on Vol. 10 Page 1235.

Would I be looking for an overseas birth record or an English one?

He was born in Mazagan, Morocco.

Hi Dennis
My guess would be, from what you've said, that it looks to be a standard birth record as listed by the consulate, so possible to order it through GRO.

Best wishes

Hi Lesley,

I ordered the birth record thru GRO but they have an overseas event order form so I had to put the Volume & Page # in the GRO Index box.

Hopefully they'll accept it:)
