Post by maggie » Fri Jul 25, 2008 6:51 pm

Hello
please can anyone help me to find a family called Kendall in the 1861 census ? i have them in 1871& 1881 and Ann herself in the 1851 the marriage was in 1857.I have tried every combination of the surname that i can think of without success ,and have tried searching ancestry.co.uk (I have taken out the subscription again)using just the wife ,just the husband ,just the daughter all to no avail so if anyone can point me in the right direction i would be really gratefull.
here is the details of the 1871 census
Sherburn Yorks

John Kendall head age 38 ag lab born Full sutton
Ann " wife age 40 born Nun Monkton
Margaret daughter age 13 born Full Sutton
Elizabeth daughter age 11 born Full Sutton

Hi Maggie,
Ancestry has Kendall indexed as Rawlins...
...they also have some other errors on the family...
Search County Yorkshire, Civil Parish Sherburn for a,
John RAWLINS, b. 1813 - there's only one [age error as 48].
Here's my best shot of translating the original page.

1861 census. Folio 21. Page 9. Sherburn.
Low? St.
John KENDALL, head, 28, Ag. Lab, b. Full Sutton, Yorks.
Ann KENDALL, wife, 30, -----------b Nun Monkton, Yorks.
Margaret KENDALL, daur, 3 -------b Full Sutton, Yorks.
Elizabeth KENDALL, daur, 2, ------b Full Sutton, Yorks.
Margaret KENDALL, sister, u/m, 24, House servant, b Full Sutton, Yorks.
Henry RASLEY?, visitor, u/m 28, ?Grocer?, b New Field, Yorks.

Page is a wee bit faint for reading.
