Non-Matching records?

Post by emanday » Sun Nov 09, 2008 7:48 pm

I'm also researching my son-in-law's family (mostly all English).

I found the first marriage for his uncle which gives the bride's surname, but when I try to find the "mirror" entry under her surname for the same year - NOTHING  . I need to check it is the correct marriage as it was all very "mysterious" at the time I understand. He'd disappeared for years then turned up with this wife. The family seem to think her surname was something very different, but even the one they think it is, is nowhere to be found. She later died and he remarried. Found the second marriage (both male and female entries) OK.

Anyone know why the entry under the first bride's surname appears to be missing? Help

Is it missing from both the GRO indexes and the FreeBMD indexes? I've seen vol and page transcription errors in the FreeBMD before so that the entry is there...just not where you expect to find it. Not sure if this helps.

Best wishes

Hello Mary & Jean,

I had one of those from the 1860s. What appeared to be my G Grandfather was all alone on a FreeBMD result. I went looking for G Grandmother on the page images for her name for the same quarter and there she was. The numbers on that page weren’t very clear and had been mistranscribed but were quite obviously a match to the other. I think a cousin may have let FreeBMD know about it because it’s okay now.

It can also happen if FreeBMD haven’t got around to transcribing the spouses page which is quite possible for yours since it is post 1911. Just check the page images on Ancestry or wherever and it should be there.

All the best,
Alan

Sorry, I should have mentioned - it was on Ancestry that I found the groom's entry image. I've tried all sorts of things, even to the point of scanning through all the pages for that year/quarter ( :( now I've got a headache :( )

I really can't accept the one for him as the correct one till I find her entry, as the family only really knew her first name. The surname they thought it might have been isn't what his image shows.

It isn't even coming up on FindMyPast

 Update

OK, so I'm a wee bit overdue for an eye test but, let's face it, some of these images can be a wee bit blurry (or is that just my eyesight  ) but it turns out that I was looking for Hadeley and it should have been Madeley

Note to Self: Use the "increase image size" facility :!:

So, I do have the right groom AND now have the bride's full name and her death entry was now easy to find.

Now, where's that telephone number for Specsavers
