Hi all,
I was browsing through my mum's memory box this afternoon and found a letter dated June 1943 from a Mrs. E Cameron Taylor. It was congratulating my mum on winning the 'Taylor Prize' at her school.
It is a lovely letter and deserves to be shared with Mrs. Taylor's descendants (if I can find them.) I found her husband's name through the address on the letter (Lochiel, 23 Murray Road, Northwood) which led to this :
TAYLOR Henry Young Cameron Captain, Royal Army Medical Corps. Died at home 25 August 1917. Aged 44. Son of Alexander & Jennie Taylor. Husband of Mrs Eothen Taylor of "Lochiel" Watford Road Northwood Middlesex. Qualifications MB, CM, FRCS ED. Buried in Morningside Cemetery Edinburgh.

I discovered Henry was born in Peterhead and then moved to Edinburgh , where I found him on the 1881 census.
I am curious as to why this man would sponsor a prize to a primary school in Ibrox, Glasgow.
I do not have a clue how to even start looking for their family. All advice welcome.

Hello Wilma,WilmaM wrote:That sounds vaguely familiar.
What school was it ?
I'm an Ibrox born [ literally] and bred and went to both Ibrox and Bellahouston Schools.
There's a muffled bell ringing somewhere about a Taylor prize - you've intrigued me
Yes it was Ibrox and my mum also went on to Bellahouston.
The letter also mentions a Davidson Prize (someone else won that.)
Mrs. Cameron Taylor selected 'Kidnapped and Catriona' as the prize for my mum.
I don't know if this was a school thing or national.
Regards,
