My husband’s ancestor Ann Hill died suddenly in bed on 13 April 1850 at Sidney St, Islington, London. The informant was a Coroner but no record of his report can be found. Her husband William E Hill was a carver and guilder and appears to go missing as the children are in the Workhouse in 1851.
We were wondering if there was any information in a newspaper.

Re: Help Required Searching Newspapers
Sorry Maggie,
I tried searches of The Times and the London papers in the 19C newspapers but got absolutely nowhere. On what date was the death registered?
It possibly wasn’t considered newsworthy enough to be included. That’s always a problem with the big cities.
All the best,
Alan

Thanks for looking Alan
It was just an idea to try and save some money, he has obtained 4 death certs plus had looks up completed at a large cost. As you know you cannot download English death certs. He has got the same problem with this William's son also named William (his ggdad) who was sentenced to 9 months hard labour in 1906 aged 62 and no sign of his death.
Thanks again

Re: Help Required Searching Newspapers
From the original question, I get the impression that you already have the death certificate ("The informant was a Coroner"), so this should give you a cause of death. However, you may be interested in a couple of entries in Ancestry's London Parish Records collection:
Ann Hill, aged 34, of Sidney Street, was buried at St Luke's Middlesex on 24 April 1850
An unbaptised male child of Ann Hill, of Hampstead, who died 7 April 1850 at 30 hours old, was buried at St John, Hampstead on 12 April 1850
I've no idea if these entries are connected, and Sidney Street is/was some way from Hampstead. I can imagine various scenarios where they might belong together, but without evidence it would be pure speculation. Any form of proof would most likely involve getting birth and/or death certificates for the baby, but it might be something to consider...

Arthur
Ann Hill died of natural causes, probably she was found by the children who called for help. Hampstead is about 4 miles from Sidney St so I do not believe this is ours.
The problem with the English death register the age at death does not appear so really a name like William Hill is pot luck. There are approximately 190 William Hill deaths between 1846 and 1850 in London. I have reduced this by selecting certain areas but this family had 6 different known addresses from their marrage in 1838 to Ann's death in 1850
We are going to order another 2 death certs at a cost of £9.25 ea to see if we are lucky.
