Work House or Hospital
I have a relative who died at 147a Mill Road in Liverpool in February, 1927. Was this address for a hospital or workhouse. He took his own life.

Re: Work House or Hospital
Hi Caroline,
It looks like 147a Mill Road was originally West Derby Poorhouse [late 1830s] or West Derby Union Workhouse, later to be Mill Road Workhouse. By the 1880s it had become Mill Road Infirmary [Poor Law Infirmary] and was rebuilt around 1891. The infirmary as a Poor Law Institution looks to have become a hospital primarily for the poor as this was well before the setting up of the National Health Service [1948]. The online book [web address below] gives a history of this poorhouse - workhouse - Poor Law institution - hospital / infirmary.
